First of all, check if you have all the necessary ingredients for this recipe
For the Kunafa crust
150 g katayef
120 g melted butter divided
20 g butter room temperature
For the date filling
200 g Date Crown date paste
300 g pistachios roasted and chopped
For decoration
3 tablespoons Date Crown date syrup
10 pieces Date Crown Lulu chopped into 4
30 g pistachios chopped
dried roses
Instructions
Step 1: Making the katayef crust
1. In a large bowl, shred the katayef into 3cm pieces.
2. Add 100g of melted butter and mix to coat the katayef with the butter.
Step 2: Making the date filling
3. In a bowl, place the date paste and the chopped pistachios. Mix by hand until well combined.
Step 3: Assembling the kunafa
4. Generously butter a round 23cm pan with the room temperature butter. Place half of the katayef crust at the bottom of the pan and firmly press the katayef crust to make sure that the bottom of the pan is fully covered.
5. Add the date filling and press it into the katayef crust making sure to evenly spread out the filling.
6. Add the remaining half of the katayef crust on top of the date filling.
7. Brush the remaining 20g of melted butter on top of the kunafa crust, then bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 30 minutes until the kunafa is golden brown.
Step 4: Decorating the kunafa
8. While the kunafa is still hot, pour the date syrup on top.
9. Decorate with Lulu dates, pistachios and dried roses. Serve warm.
